EMDR Therapy & Ketamine

Healing from trauma, depression, and anxiety often requires more than symptom management—it requires creating the conditions for meaningful emotional processing and lasting change. Self adminisnterd Ketamine programs combined with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) offers an innovative, evidence-informed approach that may help individuals access and process difficult experiences in new ways.

Ketamine is a medication that when self-administered through specific outpatient program participation or referral to a clinic based program can promote increased neuroplasticity, emotional flexibility, and a temporary reduction in rigid patterns of thinking. Many individuals report feeling less overwhelmed by painful memories, allowing them to engage more deeply in psychotherapy. Research has demonstrated ketamine's rapid antidepressant effects and growing evidence supports its use for treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, anxiety, and other trauma-related conditions.

EMDR is a well-established trauma treatment that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they become less emotionally charged. When combined with ketamine treatment, clients may experience increased openness to therapeutic work, improved emotional regulation, and enhanced ability to access and integrate difficult experiences. Emerging clinical literature suggests that ketamine and EMDR may work synergistically by reducing fear-based responses while supporting adaptive processing of traumatic memories.

                               More Information:

Preparation Sessions

Preparation sessions help determine whether a referral to a Ketamine progam is an appropriate treatment and establishs clear goals for your care. Together, we will explore your history, current concerns, and desired outcomes while developing coping skills and setting intentions for treatment. A comprehensive assessment helps identify areas for healing and ensures you are prepared for the therapeutic process.

If a ketamine  referral is appropriate, we will coordinate with a qualified separate medical provider who evaluates, prescribes, and administers ketamine. We can provide referrals to trusted providers and collaborate, with your consent, to support a safe, integrated, and effective treatment experience.

We do not provide, prescribe or supervise the ketamine treatment sessions.

Medical Referral and Collaboration

If Ketamine treatment is determined to be an appropriate treatment option, clients will be referred to a qualified medical provider for evaluation and ketamine treatment services. We maintain collaborative relationships with select ketamine providers to facilitate coordinated care and a seamless treatment experience. In some cases, these partnerships may include referral discounts for clients. Clients are also welcome to choose another ketamine provider, including companies that accept insurance coverage for medical evaluation and treatment. With your written consent, we collaborate with the medical provider to coordinate treatment planning, support safety, and optimize therapeutic outcomes throughout the  process.

EMDR and Integration Therapy

Following ketamine treatment sessions, EMDR and integration therapy help clients make sense of and build upon the insights, emotions, memories, and experiences that may emerge during the healing process. Integration sessions provide a supportive space to explore themes uncovered during treatment, process unresolved experiences, and identify new perspectives that can support growth and recovery.

EMDR therapy may be used to help clients reprocess distressing memories, reduce emotional distress, and strengthen adaptive beliefs that emerge during treatment. Through this process, clients can deepen their understanding of themselves, develop healthier patterns of thinking and responding, and create lasting changes in their relationships, behaviors, and overall well-being. The goal of integration is to transform therapeutic insights into meaningful, sustainable changes that enhance daily functioning and support long-term healing.

EMDR therapy sessions can take place after the ketamine treatments. We recommend that they occur 24-72 hours after the treatment. These can be individual one hour integration sessions, intensives or individual EMDR sessions. Please disucss your preference with your provider.

Ongoing Support

Healing is an ongoing process, and treatment plans are tailored to meet each client's evolving needs. Following initial ketamine treatment and integration work, ongoing support may include individual psychotherapy, additional Ketamine- sessions through your chosen provider, integration sessions, EMDR therapy, or a combination of these approaches. Continued treatment can help reinforce progress, address new challenges as they arise, and support the ongoing processing of trauma, depression, anxiety, or other concerns.

Together, we will regularly evaluate your goals, progress, and treatment needs to determine the most beneficial path forward. Whether through continued EMDR, periodic ketamine sessions, integration-focused therapy, or traditional counseling, ongoing support is designed to help clients maintain gains, strengthen resilience, and continue moving toward lasting emotional wellness and personal growth.
